Who are we?
The Barbados Orchid Society (BOS) was founded in 1939. The objective of the Society is to promote, encourage and improve orchid culture in the island by lectures and workshops.
We host regular meetings, educational sessions, orchid shows, and plant sales, all with the aim of sharing knowledge and celebrating the diversity of orchid species and hybrids.
our history
In the early years, plants and flowers were exhibited at the Barbados Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition held annually during the first week in December at Queen's Park. The first exhibits were staged in a small wooden booth. The display became so popular that by the early 1950s the Agricultural Society had expanded the orchid section to three large, thirty-foot metal enclosures which were filled with many varieties of tropical orchids of every colour.
As the displays grew, so did the crowds. In 1992, the name if the group was officially changed from The Barbados Orchid Circle to Barbados Orchid Society.
The BOS has had the honor of exhibiting at many shows all over the world. From Ecuador to Trinidad and also the United States of America many international awards have been granted for the beauty and quality of the BOS’s exhibits.
Locally, the society hosts biennial spring shows at Balls Plantation Christ Church where members dazzle the public with enchanting orchid displays as well as sell orchids.
The Barbados Orchid Society will showcase their 2026 Orchid Show entitled “Radiance” on Aprill 11th-12.
